What Gavelist does that a built-in AI is not built to do
- Gavelist works with any platform's import. The same Gavelist catalog exports to HiBid, LiveAuctioneers, Proxibid, BidWrangler, AuctionNinja, Auctioneer Software, eBay and a generic CSV, so changing or adding a platform does not mean re-cataloging.
- Gavelist reads every photo in a lot, with no per-lot limit, and lots with eight or more photos get their own AI pass, so a maker's mark on the base goes into the title.
- Gavelist's price is on its own invoice: $0.15 per lot pay-as-you-go, or $79, $160 and $250 a month for 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 lots, with 0% of auction sales.
- Gavelist describes 1,000+ lots in about 10 minutes on the description pass.
- Gavelist learns your house style from your edits and applies only the rules you approve.
- Gavelist's comps are optional and checkable: comps with a value range are 15c per lot, charged only when delivered, and each comp shows its source, with current listings labeled as asking prices.
Gavelist has no native phone app and no offline mode: you shoot on any phone or camera and upload the whole sale in one batch from a web browser.
When the built-in AI may fit
- Auction Flex's app may fit if you already run Auction Flex 360 and want to catalog on an Android phone at the sale site.
- AScribe may fit if you run every sale in Auctioneer Software and want the AI inside it once it leaves early access.
- Circuit Auction's AI may fit if you are moving to Circuit Auction's all-in-one platform anyway.
- Bidsquare Cloud's AI may fit if you already run your events in Bidsquare Cloud.
- Bidpath's AIM may fit if you catalog on mobile inside the Bidpath stack.
How to decide
- If you sell on more than one platform, or might switch: Gavelist catalogs once and exports to each.
- If you want to see what the AI costs per lot: Gavelist publishes $0.15 per lot; ask your platform what its AI costs on your plan.
- If marks and damage are on the back of your items: Gavelist reads every photo; ask the built-in tool how many photos per lot its AI reads.
- If you catalog on a phone at the sale site with no Wi-Fi: a built-in mobile app may fit better; Gavelist has no app or offline mode.
FAQ
Is a standalone AI cataloging tool better than the AI built into my auction software? Gavelist is better when you sell on more than one platform, want every photo read, or want the AI priced separately at $0.15 per lot with 0% of sales. A built-in AI may fit better if you never leave that one platform and want to catalog inside its mobile app.
Can I use Gavelist and my platform's built-in AI together? Yes. Gavelist only produces the catalog file; you can run one sale through Gavelist and one through the built-in AI and compare how many descriptions you would ship unedited.
Does Gavelist work with Auctioneer Software? Yes. Gavelist exports an import workbook (.xlsx) in Auctioneer Software's lot template, and its ZIP export names photos by lot number (12-1.jpg).
Does Gavelist take a percentage of my sales? No. Gavelist takes 0% of auction sales. Circuit Auction lists a 2% commission on its Standard plan, and Auction Flex lists a 2% auction fee on online HiBid sales (October 8, 2026); those are platform fees, separate from Gavelist.
Does Gavelist have a mobile app? No. Gavelist has no native app and no offline mode.
