Auction Cataloging Software Built by Someone Who Gets It
Gavelist exists because writing lot descriptions shouldn't take longer than photographing the items.
How It Started
Ben built Gavelist in Pittsburgh after watching estate auctioneers spend entire weekends doing the same thing: typing lot descriptions one at a time. An estate with 500 lots takes 60 to 80 hours of cataloging labor at 8-10 minutes per lot. That's a full-time employee for two weeks — just to describe what's already sitting in front of a camera.
The “AI tools” that existed looked at one photo per lot and produced a single generic sentence. That's not cataloging. A real lot description requires reading the backstamp, checking the base, identifying the maker's mark, noting the chip on the rim, and calling out the pattern name. You need every photo, not just the hero shot.
Gavelist was built to do what those tools wouldn't: examine every photo in every lot — the front, the back, the bottom, the label, the damage. The result is descriptions that read like they were written by your best employee on their best day, produced in seconds instead of minutes.
What Gavelist Does
A complete photo-to-catalog pipeline for professional auctioneers.
Multi-Photo AI Analysis
Every photo in every lot gets analyzed. Backstamps, labels, maker marks, condition details — nothing gets missed.
Bulk Processing at Scale
Process 300+ lots in under 15 minutes. Entire estates cataloged before lunch, not over the weekend.
Your Voice, Not a Robot
Voice profiles learn your terminology, formatting, and level of detail. Descriptions sound like you wrote them.
Export Anywhere
One-click export to HiBid, LiveAuctioneers, AuctionFlex, Proxibid, or any platform that accepts CSV.
Make Cataloging the Easy Part
Auctioneers got into this business to work with people and sell interesting things — not to spend nights typing “decorative ceramic vase, green, approximately 8 inches tall” into spreadsheets. Every hour spent cataloging is an hour not spent winning consignments, marketing sales, or being present on sale day.
Gavelist's mission is to make cataloging the easy part of running an auction business. Not the bottleneck. Not the thing you dread. The thing that just happens — accurately, in your voice, at machine speed — so you can focus on the work that actually grows your business.
